Weather: -------- 65 degrees early dropping to 45, clear, no haze or mist (breath was visible later on, but dissipated within 4 seconds) Equipment: ---------- Minolta x370 35mm SLR, 50mm standard lens, thyristor type auto flash, Kodak Gold Max 400, TriField meter, night vision, temperature sensor History: -------- Bachelors grove is supposedly one of the most haunted sites in the Chicago area. There have been over 100 reports of paranormal phenom- enon in this small abandoned cemetery. Report: ------- When we arrived at 4:30 to meet Andrew and Karen, we were surprised to see what appeared to be a forest ranger-type man standing next to a truck, parked at the gate to the old Midlothian Turnpike. This caught us off guard, as nobody ever parks here except for the authorities, and this person clearly had what looked like a badge printed on his dark blue jacket. After checking Karen's car to see if they had waited for us in the preserve and not finding them, we decided that one ranger wasn't going to stop us, even if we had to hike through the dense woods to get to the cemetery, so we did. As it turned out, there were close to 20 people in the cemetery when we finally arrived about a half hour later, including the man with the badged jacket. He was working with a film crew that was on site from Purdue University filming about the unknown. Also onsite was a group using a laptop computer to monitor about 10 different types of readings including motion, infrared, ultraviolet, and ambient light at the par- tially dug up grave. The two groups had obtained permission to inves- tigate on this day, and one was planning to be in the cemetery until well after dark. We were quite happy with the opportunity, considering the bad luck we had at Bachelor's last weekend. We noted no measurable activity while we were at the cemetery this weekend, except for some low temperature readings near the pond. Lisa obtained readings as low as 4 degrees directly towards the pond. Lisa and I did both also see a visible light direcly in front of us on the ground while checking the temperature in this area. The light appeared as a circle shaped flash, approximately six inches in diameter on the ground approximately 10 to 15 yards straight south of the break in the fence by the pond. We were surprised by the fact that we both saw it. It definitely did not look like a flashlight or a camera flash. It was a very well defined circle. I took several pictures near the end of my roll 1 at this time. Impression: ----------- For whatever reason, my gut feeling is that Bachelor's was not too ac- tive on this night. This may have had something to do with all of the people who had been and still were in the cemetery, either affecting my mood, or the actual activity. I did try to break off from the group and attempt to observe any visually detectable activity that may have been going on in the Northwest corner of the lot. I stood by the Fulton grave for quite some time, and noticed what appeared to be large light colored moth-sized objects flying around the grave. I did not see the moths themselves, but the way that they were flying resembled moth's flight. I also saw several light colored objects or flashes approxi- mately 20 yards south of the break in the fence by the quarry pond. I took numerous pictures in this area. I was using roll 2 at this point. Mike B. - 10/19/1998 Follow-up: ---------- Pending development of pictures
